Restylane Side Effects

After years of testing and actual use, Restylane is generally considered to be a safe product with very few side effects if any. Restylane is a safe product. Since the hyaluronic acid on which Restylane is based occurs naturally within the human body, typically the skin does not react to it. With over a million Restylane treatments already done globally, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. Some of these reactions are detailed below, with most lasting no more than a couple weeks.

The Possible Restylane Reactions

After receiving a Restylane injection, some of the more common reactions may include pain, redness, swelling, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the point of injection. These side effects typically subside within two days of the procedure.

Severe Reactions: While more severe reactions occur in only 1 of 2000 patients (on average), some have experienced localized swelling at the injection point, and this is thought to be brought on by the individual's own hypersensitivity. Redness, tenderness, and very rarely, acne-like formations have been know to appear in these situations. These reactions can typically occur within a few days of the injection, or as long as four weeks. When a reaction does occur, its average lifespan is only a couple weeks, and is typically described as moderate and mild in nature.
